Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe (detail). Please notice the shadow next to the central cress showing the Crucified. Blood dripping from the Cross seems to follow the cress and fall on the head of the angel below. The angel moves towards his left while Our Lady moves towards the right. The angel wings have the colors of Revolutionary France’s flag.

But anyone who endures to the end will be saved. And this good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world, as a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come. ‘So when you see the desolating sacrilege standing in the holy place, as was spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains (Matthew 24:13-16)

Many years ago I had a sort of moment of truth while reading Matthew 24, in particular those words: “let the reader understand.” At the time I was beginning to read the Bible trying to recreate the images in my mind. Soon I was quite able to read and imagine the scenes without much effort. Reading that part my imagination represented Christ talking to the disciples in the Mount of Olives, turning his head towards the readers of all those centuries and saying: “this is for you, try to understand…” A chill ran down my spine that first time. I sensed God was addressing every believer, every reader from the depth of twenty centuries of Christianity.

I tried to understand. This blog we have shared since 2009 is a form of witnessing. I have nothing to teach, no doctrine to pass on but just this learning together. My previous post had to do with the extraordinary revelation or discovery that a humble Italian professor shared with Andrea Cionci —and with the world— only a few days ago. I think most readers do not fully grasp the importance of the discovery by Prof. Alessandro Massano, a man of faith and a scientist himself.

I spent the last 48 hours thinking about this. I am very grateful to God for the gift of understanding the Italian language and being able to translate the amazing video: La scoperta di A. Massano sulla Madonna di Guadalupe: 46 stelle = 46 papi, ultimo Benedetto XVI   (Alessandro Massano’s discovery about Our Lady of Guadalupe: 46 stars = 46 popes, last Benedict XVI.” ) The video begins with a simple welcome but the conversation grows into a fantastic series of discoveries.

My mind is filled with thoughts and connections. As I do my daily chores I cannot avoid thinking about this. I look at the streets of my neighborhood, to the familiar things in my home and I can’t do anything but wonder what will be the shape of my little world as we enter this new era, the age clearly blown open to Christian understanding by this quiet humble man, Mr. Massano. God is certainly mysterious in choosing His messengers.

You may wonder why I say this. So, let’s get into the thick of the matter. I am not going to hold back anything. If you think I’ve gone insane I won’t blame you but simply bear with me as I enter this stream of consciousness post. There is no other way to write it. I am too excited by the ideas passing before my eyes.

Prophetia Malachiae de Summis Pontificibus

Many of you may be familiar with St. Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes. That prophecy has been controversial to say the least.  There is a list of Popes beginning with Celestine II that ends with a pope identified as Petrus Romanus during whose reign the city of Rome will be destroyed and the Christian flock will experience many tribulations. The destruction of Rome and a final persecution of the Catholic Church have been announced by many visionaries and saints.

Allow me to focus on the list of 111 Popes that go from Pope Celestine II (d. 1144 A.D.) to our contemporary Benedict XVI (the 265th Pope from the first, St. Peter) who reigned from 2005 to 2022 A.D. (More on that later.) The list of St. Malachi intersects the list of stars/popes appearing in the discovery of Prof. Massano at the papacy of Clement VII (a Florentine nobleman, he reigned from 1523–1534 A.D. and was the reigning pope when the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe at Tepeyac Hill happened. After him there are seven future popes called Clement.)

  • Malachi lists all the Roman Pontiffs from 1144 to the end of … we do not know because Malachi simply says “finis” (the end) but he does not specify the end of what.
  • The Mantle of Our Lady on the miraculous tilma seems to list the Roman Popes from 1531 to the end of this world grouped by names and a dizzying correlation to the stars and constellations shown on the mantle of Our Lady.
The names in English are (from top to bottom) Julius, John, Sixtus, Marcellus, Urban, Alexander, John Paul, Leo, Gregory, Paul, Benedict, Innocentius, Clement, Pio.

At the time of the apparitions in 1531, the reigning Pope was Clement VII (not included in the predicted 46 because he was already known.) See my previous post A startling new discovery.  For those who want to understand better the apocalyptic nature of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe  I recommend reading my book  Guadalupe A River of Light — The Story of Our Lady of Guadalupe from the First Century to Our Days.  The story that we are examining began long ago when Our Blessed Mother was born in Nazareth. Read the book!

The correlation between the list of popes and the constellations and stars shown in the mantle is what I would call “a series that is impossible to falsify.” The related statistics are simply astonishing. We are not merely contemplating the opinion of Prof. Massano, we are contemplating a fact.

Consequences of the fact

This amazing discovery seems to indicate the moment when the Church escapes to the wilderness. The   abomination is in place and concomitantly, the Church has finished clearly proclaiming the Gospel of Christ through Peter and his successors. A time of apostasy descends over a false church that fornicates with the powers of this world.

(Matthew 24:13-16 VULGATA LATINA — See English translation at the beginning of this post.)

Christ is clearly talking about the end of the mission of the Church. The Gospel has been declared for a witness to all nations and then the end must come: The consummation of the age. A clear abomination has taken over the sacred place and it will be visible to all. That is the reason why the Church ceases to declare the Gospel of Christ. The abomination either impedes the normal operation of evangelization or takes over and begins to declare a false gospel. The true Church is eclipsed and begins to live her own Calvary.

What follows —in my opinion— is a perversion of the essence of the Petrine Ministry. In fact, the Petrine mission mysteriously presented in Matthew 16 ends because of the operation of the desolating abomination. It is a time of darkness during which the Church must “flee to the mountains” to be fed like Elijah was fed in a mountain’s cave. (1 Kings 19:9-18) Elijah fled after his triumph over the false prophets on Mount Carmel. The Christian flock must flee to the mountains after the victory of the Gospel that reaches the ends of the Earth. The Church escapes to the eternal truths of “the faith entrusted once for all to the saints.” (Jude 1:3) while she is briefly eclipsed by the abomination.

This is the end of something important

  • Moses took his people to the desert when the Age of the Patriarchs ended and Israel left Egypt going into the wilderness and then to the Promised Land after a 40 year purification.
  • Christ took His People (the Church, the New Israel) into the wilderness of the world, into the nations so the promise of God could occur: “My house will be a house of prayer for all the nations!”
  • In our own days, Christ Himself is leading us into the wilderness one more time to be purified and readied for a Marian Age to come.

The discovery of the secret list of popes hidden in the Mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe confirms that the age of evangelizing the world is coming to an end. Pope Benedict was the last true Roman Pontiff, the last of a long list. His dying on the last day of the year testifies to the end of something important. We must strive to understand where we are standing at this time in history.

Just like Israel left Egypt, just like the Church (the new Israel) left Judea to take the Gospel of Christ to the world … now a new mission is at hand. The abomination will appear to “turn off” the Church only to find that the Church is the very reason the world exists. Without the “salt of the world” the global dominion set up by the abomination will vanish, collapsing in a terrible crescendo of violence as the natural forces are unleashed against it. (See Revelation 9:15-19)

End of the Petrine Mission

The mission of Peter began thus:

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’  He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’ (Matthew 16:13-20)

Peter must have been pleasantly surprised by the appointment. Imagine yourself in his position! What an honor to be the holder of the keys for the Eternal King of Israel!

Peter did not know Jesus was building a parable. The Pontiffs in the Mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe form a composite lesson of Popes, stars, constellations. That complex parable includes the Spanish conquest of Mexico, the conversion of Juan Diego, the apparition of Our Lady at Tepeyac Hill, the Castilian roses miraculously appearing at the top of the mountain, the image being drawn on the Tilma before the astonished eyes of Bishop Zumarraga and his guests … all that palimpsest of innumerable signs could only be produced by God!

Study the events in the life of Our Lady from the first century to our days and you will see! I have done it for years and there is no end to the signs! If a simpleton like me can do it … imagine what others more qualified and perceptive can find. See the proof in the work of Prof. Massano! What a blessing that humble man has received!

Returning to Peter’s mission and the parable Christ is building in history since the days of Matthew 16. Our first Pope made his first pontifical intervention by contradicting Jesus, who was explaining the harsh realities of the Cross. Peter gave his best opinion on the matter only to be called “satan” (a resister!)

From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, ‘God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you.’ But he turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind me, satan! You are a stumbling-block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.’ (Matthew 16:21-23)

Again, in my opinion, Christ was building a parable  from the beginning. The divine appointment of the first Pope marks the beginning of that teaching. The end of the parable is marked by the serious rebuke Peter receives for attempting to deny the Cross. I believe one could use this arc that goes from divine impulse to satanic arrest to describe the whole history of the Papacy. Peter resembles Jonah, the prophet that was sent to Nineveh but decided to take a Spanish vacation instead. Faced with the Cross, our beloved Peter fails and takes the opposite road. The last episode of his long life begins when he tries to escape the persecution of Nero. Running away from Rome he has a vision of Christ going the opposite way, carrying the Cross. “Quo vadis, Domine?” asks Peter (“Where are you going, Lord?) To what Jesus replies, “Romam eo iterum crucifigi” (“I am going to Rome to be crucified again!”) The vision moved Peter to return to Rome and die a glorious martyrdom but the tension between worldly honors and selfless sacrifice for the flock will always be present among Peter’s successors.

When the very end comes, that same Peter who heard the word of God in his heart and declared Jesus to be the Christ … that same Peter —in one of his successors— will be transformed into a resister, a denier of the Cross, a new Judas, a servant of evil. Fulton Sheen imagines (quite accurately) a prophetic scenario that now looks too familiar and it was subtly predicted by Jesus when he rebuked Peter. Poor Peter! He did not know he was playing the part —not only the first Pope— but also the abominable parody of himself that would come after the end of the Papacy! That last Peter will be of the world, a Roman: Petrus Romanus.

“[The devil] will set up a Counter-church, which will be the ape of the Church. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content…. The False Prophet will have a religion without a cross. A religion without a world to come. A religion to destroy religions. There will be a counterfeit Church. Christ’s Church will be one, and the False Prophet will create the other. The false Church will be worldly, ecumenical, and global. It will be a loose federation of churches and religions, forming some type of global association, a world parliament of Churches. It will be emptied of all divine content; it will be the mystical body of the Antichrist. The Mystical Body on earth today will have its Judas Iscariot, and he will be the False Prophet. Satan will recruit him from our bishops.” — Archbishop Fulton J Sheen, Communism and the Conscience of the West (1948)

Conclusion

Prof. Massano has given us a timely gift. Two lists of Popes intersect and authenticate each other. They show us that we are living at the end of an age. When will this occur in earnest? How will it develop? I only have some faint idea of how this is going to proceed. God knows best. All I can suggest is to put ourselves in His hands. We will be safe there.
