“Her clear conscience mocked rumor’s mendacity, but we are a mob prone to credit sin.” — Ovid
“The day of the Lord will not come unless the great apostasy comes first.” — St. Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2, 3
There are many levels of mendacity. One can brag about having a million in one’s bank account when one does not even have a bank account. That is a mere fib when compared to the destructive propaganda coming from the media outlets of our age. The little lies never go very far but serious mendacity destroys lives and that destruction begins with the desolation that eats away at the heart of the mendacious.
Most of us imagine that we are clean before God. We think our heart is clean from those egregious sins that seem to populate the souls of those around us. The English word person comes from the Latin persona meaning mask. We go through life wearing a mask, concealing the reality of original sin that lives inside us. In many ways we are a walking misrepresentation of our own selves.
According to some prophecies of Fr. Gobbi, the abomination predicted by Daniel points at a moment in history (quickly approaching if you ask me) when the holy words of consecration will be changed, thus preventing transubstantiation and causing the host to become desolate of the presence of Our Lord.
He shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall make sacrifice and offering cease; and in their stead shall be an abomination that desolates, until the decreed end is poured out upon the desolator.’ (Daniel 9:27)
Think of it for a moment. What Daniel is describing is something that can only be a corporate act, an ecclesial decision that can only be —by definition— the pinnacle of an apostasy well established within the only collective that can make such decisions: the hierarchy of the Church.
According to many prophecies hostile forces will infiltrate certain levels of the Catholic Church leadership at the end of times. A schism will occur and a sizable number of those in the Church will join the apostasy.
Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first. (2 Thessalonians 2:3 — NRSVACE)
The true Catholic Church will appear to be defeated. It may even disappear from the face of this world. This clandestine Church will be persecuted and many of her members will experience martyrdom just like their Master did. That may be happening right now somewhere in the world.
The Church may have to hide like the woman of Revelation 12:
[…] the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
While the Church is nourished during this exile period, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be altered. Just as it happened during the early days of the French Revolution, the image of the Beast will be worshipped almost universally for a short period of time. Such abominable events shall trigger a clear response from God. Such response will be universal as well and it will go through everything that exists ordering everything to the will of God.
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:30)
When that manifestation finally arrives, the Earth we live in will be awash in Truth. Nothing will be able to resist the image of the Son of Man defeating the image of the Beast. No amount of mainstream media mendacity will be able to spin that. I imagine confessionals around the world will be quite busy: nothing that is hidden will fail to come to the light of day.
I personally believe that the events on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) indicate that the absence of the Eucharist will most likely trigger a clear manifestation of Our Lord. The Resurrected Christ disappears from the table after “blessing the bread” and —while the bread remains— Christ is made invisible to the disciples. Could that mean that in the last days the desolation of the Eucharist will demand the appearance of Our Lord in glory?
The two elements are there: a false sacrament, devoid of the Body, Soul, and Divinity of Christ is presented to mankind as the ultimate lie of the father of lies. On the other hand, the Father of Lights presents His Son “the Beloved, in whom He is well pleased.” That way the whole of mankind can see the Truth for the first time in a long while.
I must tell you that there was more than one occasion when I sensed a sort of potent spiritual light going through me. I knew at those times that such light was not granted because of some extraordinary virtue but rather the complete opposite. During prayer, almost in infinitesimally small doses, I was allowed to see my soul au naturel. I do not wish anyone that experience. I compare it to being shot by a cannon at short distance, or an unbearable vibration going through one’s soul. The seers of Garabandal told us that one day we will all contemplate the state of our own soul for a few minutes. I know that is needed but —having had a small taste of it— I am not exactly looking forward to it.
That will be the way truth will go through everything, deleting every lie big and small in a glorious burst of light. A planet-size portion of humble pie will then be consumed by all.
We can conceive human history as a burst of lies that extends through time and space in one direction beginning at the Garden of Eden. A burst of truth is flying in the opposite direction. We seem to be living very close to the time when the core of both forces will clash.
We know which one will prevail.
